Clarify Expectations With Others

Stress Relief Tool – Clarify Expectations With Others

Clarify expectations with others to ensure you deliver as expected, avoiding unnecessary stress in the process.

How many times have you expected one thing from your significant other, family, friends, or coworkers and the end result was something different? If you are like me, that has happened more times than you can remember. And chances are that some, if not most, of those unmet expectations lead to unnecessary stress.

The solution is to clarify expectations with others from the outset. Instead of assuming that your boss needs something done immediately, ask her when she needs it by. Also, be clear with people about when you’ll get back to them about their request. If something will realistically take you two weeks to get to, just say so. If you don’t have time to hang out with your friends or help somebody with an errand, just be honest and let them know.

Bottom line: If you have any doubt about a deliverable that you are responsible for, don’t assume you have it right. Clarify expectations with others to ensure you deliver as expected, avoiding unnecessary stress in the process.
